Honour our faithful shepherds of hope
This Jubilee Year of Hope is a sacred time for renewal, reconciliation, and revival across our Church. As we celebrate the Jubilee of Priests (25–27 June), I invite you to not only honour the selfless vocation of our clergy, but to reflect deeply on the priesthood itself: a divine gift, flowing from the heart of Jesus Christ, and essential to the life of our Catholic Church.
At every stage of life, our priests walk with us - offering Christ’s mercy, proclaiming the Gospel, bringing us the Eucharist, and standing beside us in joy and in sorrow. A priest’s life is not his own - it is poured out in loving service, a living sacrifice for the people of God.
"Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other." – Thessalonians 5:12-13
As our priests retire, they move away from our parish communities and the active ministries to which they have been devoted. But retirement does not in any way diminish their fervour for radical self-giving. They continue to offer us their prayers and minister to our spiritual needs. For this, we are truly blessed and grateful.
As they retire, we as their Catholic family, are called upon to care for them, love them, and look after their needs.
Your compassionate gift today to our Clergy Support Foundation will provide for the individual needs of our retired priests. May your generosity and compassion give them a life of comfort and dignity as they live out their years.
